Why does our new puppy bite so much?
As a canine puppy matures they will begin play-fighting with littermates. This helps to develop their reflexes, coordination and physical skill. It also helps them develop social skills and teaches them how to interact positively within their canine society, their pack.
However, when a puppy is allowed to continue to bite you and your family you are inadvertantly reinforcing this behavior. Many of us will tend to dangle fingers in an attempt to entice a puppy to play. While a puppy is very small this may not be uncomfortable but as they (and their teeth) mature this becomes a negative habit.
The instant a puppy should begin to nip or bite > GAME OFF! Stop your interaction and withdraw immediately. Ensure that the only time you play is when they keep their teeth off.
Remember, whether your dog develops good or bad habits is entirely up to you. We can help! please do not hesitate to contact us at 1.877.780.PETS or via eMail.
